Jade and I are currently in preparation mode for our upcoming workshops with Lakeland’s Higher Achievement scholars!

We spent the day reviewing d.school’s Liberatory Design methods (a big thanks to Texas DFC Champion, Monica!) and outlining our plans for working with students. Based on the vital information we have gotten from Monica and some of Baltimore’s amazing teachers, we decided to spend day 1 of the workshops building trust and establishing team agreements.

We are striving to work as co-creators and learners. Further, we are exploring how design thinking—employed with an equity lens—can effectively support youth in developing their capacities for self-advocacy and empathy. With those goals as our guide, Jade and I completed a general outline of how we will work towards these goals given our strict time constraints (although we are hoping to stretch out timeline a bit :D). We will have phase 2 of our weekly meeting with Becky to get feedback on our outline and begin fleshing out the details. Stay tuned to see how this work progresses!
