Feedback on our 1st stage workshop plan

March 19 & March 20, 2019

We shared with Becky about our initial plan of the four workshop with Higher Achievement on the Tuesday of spring break!!! (Such a hard-working team!!! lol)
Becky reminded us the transparency of the process. Even though time is really limited in 1-hour workshops, but we need to make the students as engaged with the process as possible. That way, we can really make the students own this experience.

Moreover, we realized that 4 hours of interaction is really too less, so we decided to extend the class plan to 5 hours, which luckily also was approved by the mr. Neyo from Higher Achievement.

On Wednesday, Jade’s best friend, Kate, from previous work (my old boss, actually) visited Baltimore. Kate is the founder of Design For Change Taiwan, and we seize the chance to share with her this project and ask for her feedback on our plan.

Kate shared an example of DFC Taiwan when they held a workshop in a community library and time was also a big constraint.

Instead of letting all the students randomly “Feel” their own things, DFC Taiwan designed the workshop to “feel around the library”, so the participants walked around and observed the library, and shared about anything bothered them or can be re-designed in a better way.

This example really reminded us to consider more in detailed about the scope and constraint of our intervention with the Higher Achievement schoolers. And How are we going to start the process the students.
